5 Ways to Win My Heart

WOW! It’s been a while since I’ve written a WWC entry. This Wednesday, I’m going with #29: 5 ways to win your heart! or rather, my heart. This should be fun! <3

1. Buy me a Starbucks sweet green tea with 1/2 the sweetener. My favorite drink to order and it’s oh so yummy and delicious. It’s the easiest way to win my heart and even make me smile.

2.  Take me to a Texas Longhorn football game. Growing up in Austin, Texas, I loved Saturdays in the fall, college football time. I remember being a child listening to the game on the radio, feeling that excitement when they would score and when I was older, I would go to many games as I could with friends and after Danny and I started dating, we enjoyed games as a family! I miss my home so much, especially during the fall. It’s my favorite time of year and the Longhorn experience is one I wish I could share with the rest of my family. #hookem

3. Give me an Etsy gift certificate. Right now, I’m obsessed with wanting to decorate our home, but unfortunately, since the funds are low, I spend the majority of my time searching Etsy for wall decorations and dreaming of art that would fit my color scheme and make our house a home. I totally dream about having enough money to just pick and choose what I want and right now I’m loving the farmhouse style, quotes, and anything navy and cream inspired. Do you have any favorite Etsy shops? Definitely, share with me.

4. Encourage me while I’m in this never-ending fitness journey. Going through any fitness journey is difficult and the support would definitely be amazing and wonderful. Sometimes we want our partner or family to just know and read our minds when it comes to situations like this. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way. Until then I’ll just keep working hard to fulfill my goals with a smile on my face.

5. The final way to win my heart would be surprising me with a trip to New York City. I’ve dreamed about visiting the city ever since I was in high school. I remember hanging out with my friend Blair, writing down all the places Duran Duran went in hopes of meeting them. Well, high school was a long time ago and although the reasons why I want to visit have changed, It’s still the #1 city on my list to visit. I would love to see many Broadway shows, eat at Serendipity, stand in Times Square, visit as many boroughs as I can, finally meet my friend Adria and her family and run through Central Park. Maybe someday this dream will come true.

Most of the ways listed are a bit superficial, but that’s okay. I’m very fortunate that my life is pretty great. I have 5 amazing children and a wonderful husband who are healthy, smart and loving. I love my job and I love my friends. Life isn’t perfect. We have bills to pay and our schedules are hectic, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love my big family, I love that when my children get older they will have instant best friends and someone who will be there for them when life gets hard. It’s comforting as a parent and I’m so happy.

Wednesday Writing Challenge

wwcWOW! It’s been a while since I wrote a blog post. It crosses my mind all the time, unfortunately, I never make the time to post what I’m thinking about. Since today is Wednesday, I figured I’d jump back in with a writing prompt. It’s been a while, so here it goes.

Wednesday Writing Challenge Week 7: #17.
Your favorite color and why.

My favorite color is blue. It’s a color I’ve loved and been passionate about since I was a little girl. I don’t remember how it all started, but there is something about the color that just makes me smile. I love all blue color types, but my favorite is navy. Throughout my life, I’ve wanted to incorporate navy throughout my house and finally, after many years, I’m on the right track. I have so many ideas, and I can’t wait to see them all come to life. I even have a Pinterest page devoted to decorating with navy. You can check out the living area ideas here.

Almost daily, my wardrobe and accessories are navy or have navy accents. I carry a navy purse and at the moment my nails are polished navy. See, I told you I was in love.

Below the cut, are a few photos of me and one of my family room accents. Like I said, it’s a work in progress. I hope to share more house photos soon. In the meantime, share your favorite color. I’d love to read/see if anyone share’s my love of navy or blue.

What tattoos you have and if they have any meaning.

At the moment, I only have one tattoo. I always knew that when I grew up, I’d have tattoos, I was just never sure what they would be. Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve always loved Drew Barrymore. I think it traces back to E.T., one of my all-time favorite movies.

Through the years, my obsession for Drew grew with each movie: Irreconcilable Differences, Mad Love, The Wedding Singer and eventually Never Been Kissed. Turning 40 was a big milestone and I decided to do something big to celebrate. My cousin Jacquie had several tattoos and suggested I get one. I knew it was the right choice. From the moment I saw a magazine photo of Drew showing her butterfly tattoo, I was always fascinated and knew that would be what I wanted.  I already knew that butterfly tattoos were popular, but it didn’t matter to me. According to itattoodesigns.com, the butterfly is a true wonder of Nature.  As a result, butterflies are often associated with Rebirth and Resurrection. In Christianity, the butterfly represents Christ’s resurrection and his ascension to heaven.

Below the cut is a picture of Drew’s butterfly and a photo of mine. I had always saved a picture of her tattoo, but when I went to Texas for vacation, the idea to get the tattoo happened on a whim, therefore, no photo with me. So, we discussed with the artist what I wanted, and he sketched a beautiful tattoo, with navy coloring, my all time favorite color.  Jacquie chose the same design, but with purple detail and in the end, both of our tattoos turned out wonderful. It was a great bonding moment and one I’ve treasured ever since.  Since then, I have thought of other tattoos I’d like to have. Something that represents my love of family and one that represents being a Longhorn. Someday.

Something you’re currently worrying about.

Right now, I’m worried about a lot of things. I’m worried about the Olympic athletes and their journey to Rio. I’m worried about my mother. I’m worried about what will happen to this country after the November election.  I’m worried about my cousin Randy, who is presently battling cancer. I’m worried about my daughter who at the moment is trying to come back from a mental block in gymnastics. I’m worried that black lives don’t matter. I’m worried that people are afraid of policemen. I’m worried for my family that when I go to the internet or turn on the news, that someone has died or that multiple deaths have happened. I’m worried what my future brings. I’m worried what my children’s future will be like. I’m worried that someday I will die with many debts. I’m worried that my husband feels like he’s never doing enough to provide for our family. I’m worried that I’ll never find my Samantha, Charlotte or Miranda. I’m worried that I’ll never make it to NYC. I’m worried about my children and whether they will find the great love they are meant to find. I’m worried that their great love will cause hate in the world. I’m worried about bullies. I’m worried about Sophie starting middle school.

This list could go on and on. Sadly, as a mother, a female, a human, I worry about anything and everything. I think that’s okay. It keeps me on my toes and no matter  how many times it angers my children, I will do everything I can do to protect them. I love them. I’m worried that they will never know how much.

Something you don’t leave your house without.

This week’s writing challenge is pretty easy. My cell phone. It’s really scary how dependent I am on my cell phone. Being a mom of 5 and a mom who is always on the go, I want to be able to be in contact with my children and my husband. Like I’ve stated before, my youngest daughter is a competitive gymnast and we are in the gym 4 sometimes 5 days a week. It can be  crazy during the school year when everyone else is at their activities, so having a cell phone with me at all times is very important.

Another reason I love having my phone near me is because I am an Instagram addict.  I love taking photographs of anything and everything and between my main Insta and my fitness account, I’m always sharing. My fitness account is packed with exercise and food photos and if I can’t feed off my inspirations and #tiugirls excitement, then I won’t feel inspired or encouraged.

I have been making an effort to not always have it by my side.  It’s hard, but I’m always trying. I’ve also tried to have family dinners each week and have the kids not bring their electronics to the table. It hasn’t always gone over well, but they are trying and that’s important to me.

10 interesting facts about myself

This week’s Wednesday Writing Challenge is #3, 10 interesting facts about myself. I figured this was another great way of introducing myself and maybe share some interesting and rather not so interesting facts about myself.

  1. I have one tattoo, a butterfly on my left shoulder blade. I’d love to get a few more in the future. It was inspired by Drew Barrymore’s tattoo and my cousin Jacquie and I have the same tatto0., different spots, different colors.
  2. You already know I’m a TV junkie, but I’m also a Hallmark tv junkie. I love watching the Hallmark movies of the week and my secret fantasy in life is to be an extra in one or be the leading lady who gets the man of her dreams.
  3. My favorite drink at Starbucks is a Venti Sweet Green Tea Lemonade. Sometimes when I’m trying to be healthy, I’ll take it with 3 pumps of sweetener or no sweetener at all.
  4. I’m a night owl. I have a hard time falling asleep at night, and will often stay up until 2-3 in the morning catching up on my DVR.
  5. My favorite foods are bell peppers and key lime yogurt.
  6. My perfect vacation would be in NYC. I’ve been dreaming about visiting the city ever since I was in high school.  Locations I would want to see are different now, but still, to see the fall foliage, springtime at Central Park, or the window displays at Christmastime. Any time is a great time to visit the city.
  7. I love Christmas movies. I love how cheerful they can be and how family oriented they are. I can watch them all year long and I often do. My favorite Christmas movie is The Holiday.
  8. I am an only child between my mom and dad. I do have one siblings on my dad’s side, 2 sisters and 1 brother that lives in Illinois.
  9. When I was little, I wanted to be a Broadway dancer.  As a child, I took tap, dance, and ballet.
  10. My favorite movie of all time is the Wizard of Oz.

Tonight’s MM is just a little blurb to let you guys know that today,  I booked my trip to Texas.  11 wonderful days in my hometown to visit my mom. I’m so excited!  Moving away from home and from my mom 10 years ago has not been easy on either of us.  To be able to spend some quality time with her will be special. I haven’t mentioned it on the blog, but my mom was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis several years ago.  I feel like each time I go home the moments  are special and sadly the visits don’t happen as often as I’d like, so I hope to make this visit as special as I can.  It is always hard to leave my family, and usually, they do go with me, but with school activities and with my youngest in competitive gymnastics, leaving for that many days isn’t possible now. I hope to visit as a family at Christmastime in late 2016.  This summer is flying by. When I come home from Texas, the kids will start school in 7 days. Crazy, right?? I hope to make the rest of our summer exciting and fun-filled.

Wednesday Writing Challenge Week 2: #19.
Put your music player on shuffle and write the first 3 songs that play and what is your initial thought.

  1. Beautiful Life – Nick Fradiani   Nick was last year’s American Idol winner. Honestly, I was getting bored with the show, and although we watched the episodes, I was ready to say goodbye. I liked Nick from the beginning. I thought he was cute and a good singer. As the season progressed, I felt like the show was going in the same direction it always does, molding a contestant to be a winner. Beautiful Life was his winner’s song and from first listen, I loved it. Right now my iTunes music is full of upbeat, running songs and this one is definitely played often and on repeat.  Also, I love the message and lyrics to this song. “Gives us just one perfect night to say, oh what a beautiful life!”  That we as humans should live one day at a time enjoying all that life has to offer. It’s an incredible feeling and when I’m running, I definitely feel I’m living a beautiful life. Video here: Nick Fradiani – Beautiful Life
  2. Sun Don’t Let Me Down – Keith Urban (Featuring Nile Rodgers and Pitbull)  This song is on Keith’s new album Ripcord, and I’m loving it! I’m a huge Keith fan and my iTunes is full of many Keith songs. This is a great upbeat, running song as well. I know a lot of people criticize today’s country songs saying that they are not the same as they were 20 years ago. I don’t fret about it. I like country music from every decade and I love music that is great to dance to and to sing along with. This song fits both perfectly.  Video here: Keith Urban – Sun Don’t Let Me Down
  3. You’ll Think of Me – Keith Urban  Once again, another Keith song pops up.  I love this song. Released in 2014, it’s still one I won’t remove. I don’t have many slower tempo songs on my iTunes, but this one I just can’t delete. It’s one of my favorites and such a beautiful song. The video also reminds us of what Keith looked like with the longer hair. Video here: Keith Urban – You’ll Think of Me

So those are the 3 songs that popped up. Want me to review any other songs,  just let me know. At the moment, I have 193 songs on my playlist, but I’m always adding and deleting.

Until next week.

Wednesday Writing Challenge

wwc

A few weeks ago, my cousin Jacquie shared a 30-day writing challenge. I loved it. I thought it would be a great way to share more about me and to help become a better writer. So, I’ve decided to turn the challenge into a weekly feature. Every Wednesday, I’ll pick a prompt at random and share. If you love the idea, go ahead and snag. Share your blog post in the comments, as I’d love to get to know more about my readers too. If the challenge has a strike-through, I’ve already picked that number.

The list and the first entry are behind the cut.

Microblog Mondays #7

Today’s Microblog Monday is about house cleaning. During the Summer, I love to tackle new projects around the house. I wish I was handy with a hammer, but my Summer cleaning involves linen closets, the master bedroom and bathroom, and organizing the upstairs game room. As I look around my home, I can visualize the changes I want. Hardwood floors where there is carpet, french doors leading out to a beautiful backyard, and art on the walls that reflect our family and my style. The colors in my dream palette are navy, cream and brown. I’m excited to share on this blog all the exciting changes to come. What style do you enjoy? Right now I’m loving anything Joanna Gaines reveals on Fixer Upper. I just adore that show and her style. I’ll be sharing a blog post soon sharing my favorite pieces from her new furniture line located online at Nebraska Furniture Art. Check it out here.
