WOW! I have not updated since January. A lot has happened in the last few months. Still trying to stay on track with my eating choices, but the exercise and running have been almost non-existent. The last month I definitely have tried to make changes and as of tomorrow, I will start week 3 of my half marathon training through the Nike Run Club app. Also, tomorrow marks Week 1 of the Tone It Up Bikini Series. I definitely want to be accountable and start blogging through this process. I hope that you will join me on my journey!
Before I begin the Bikini Series, there are some questions that are asked of each member. I’m going to blog mine here so that way I can look back, re-read if I need to and to remind myself to stay on track.
Well, I’ve been a slacker when it comes to my blog and my running updates. I apologize…so here is a mini update.
November total miles: 60.76 December total miles: 19.42
Yep, you read that correctly. Can you believe the December total?? It’s utterly embarrassing and although I hate to put it out there for the world to see, I need to be accountable. I have not run since December 13th. That is just horrible and not like me. I didn’t just give up, I got lazy. I think with the holidays approaching, I just didn’t feel like going and made every excuse not to go. Then, the end of the month, allergy season set in and I just felt horrible. I know if I had just run, I would have felt fine, but like I said excuses. Then, I went home to visit my mom for a week and did nothing. Absolutely Nothing!! I definitely feel that in just a few short weeks, my body feels different and looks different. I hate it!
The good news to come out of all this and I always look on the bright side, I was able to increase my miles. I was able to hit 8plus miles. It felt amazing and it proved to myself that I can do this. I was supposed to run my first half in February, and unfortunately, because of a prior commitment, I don’t think I’ll be able to. I’m really upset. It was a hometown run and I felt that would have been a great place to start, but it’s okay. I do have my eye on a few others and I’m going to rock those!!
So, in the end, I didn’t finish the year the way I wanted to. I wanted to rock 1000 miles this year and I think in the end, I hit around 600. All I can do is take this anger and turn it around. It’s a new year, a new month, and a new day. I can do it and I will. I hope that you will join me during this upcoming year as I promise to blog more and share more!! 🙂
October Running Update: This past month, I ran a total of 61.8 miles. A lot more miles than I did in September. I’m so excited. Finally, I’m adding more miles each month and starting to feel like a runner again.
According to Runkeeper, I had a total of 61.8 miles completed. My average pace was 11.06.
I completed 18 activities. I burned 6,420.3 calories. Elevation climbed 996.8 feet.
I spent 11:26 hours doing some sort of activity.
I’m still on track with my half marathon training program with the NRC app. Finished the month of October on week 6. I had one week where I didn’t get the green check mark and the old me would have stopped the program and started over, but I’m tired of being that girl. The only day I missed was an NTC workout and because I had been at the gym that week, I let it slide. During the month of October, I also completed my longest run, in a while. I hit 7plus miles. It wasn’t easy, but when it was over, I felt wonderful. So excited to start adding those miles in the upcoming weeks.
Sadly, during the month of October, I didn’t hit my 10,000 step goal in one day and it ruined my streak. I’ve tried to start a new one, but something happens and one day I blow it. It’s okay. I guess it’s my body’s way of saying it needs rest. I also didn’t do well updating on the #TIU challenge. I completed the month and although I didn’t follow the plan precisely, I felt that I made great strides with my exercise and my eating choices.

September Running Update: This past month, I ran a total of 39.5 miles. A little less than August, but not by much. I know that from now on, each month will get higher and soon I’ll be back to my normal running schedule. Sadly, during the month of September, I started and stopped my half training again. I am determined to finish and I just completed week 2 and feel great.
According to Runkeeper, I had a total of 39.5miles completed. My average pace was 14.03.
I completed 18 activities. I burned 3,510.7 calories. Elevation climbed 580.4 feet.
I spent 9:15 hours doing some sort of activity.

I’ve been working hard to hit the 10,000plus each day and it paid off one week in September. I’m on a roll right now pushing each day to get the steps and I’m at 21 days makig that goal. Also, I’m sharing a photo of my favorite meal to eat, salads! I love them! I love them with mixed greens, tomatoes, bell peppers, avocados, carrots, cucumbers, etc. I can eat them every day and I just about do. Do you love salads? Do you have any recommendations on some to try?? If not salads, what’s your go-to favorite healthy dish?? Share!! I’d love to try out some new recipes.
Also, I added some running Nike photos. I’m loving their new backgrounds. They are so much fun and how cute are the stickers. I also completed my Week 1 of Half Marathon Training! I’m so excited to be starting and hopefully completing this challenge with a half marathon event. My longest run of the week was the 6plus miles. Slowly but surely, I’ll be adding more miles. I’ll for sure keep you posted.
August Running Update: This past month, I ran a total of 44.23 miles. More than July, but not what I had hoped for. September will definitely be a game changer. I’m back to my half marathon training and I’m determined to stick with the plan this go round.

I completed 20 activities. I burned 3,068 calories. Elevation climbed 896 feet.

This past month, I didn’t reach the number of miles I wanted, but I did increase the activity by 10. I’ve started to incorporate a lot of running/walking. I’ve been trying to encourage my daughter to start exercising more and when I run with her, we spend more time walking. I’ve also started walking with some other ladies from the gym. I have a lot of fun walking and chatting with them and we are planning on participating in some upcoming races in Phoenix. I really hope it happens. It would be great to have some running buddies. So September is my new game changer month. I really love this time of year in Arizona. Fall is approaching and so are the cooler temps in the morning. So exciting!! I recently added the update to the Nike Running Club. The app provides a training coach and tomorrow I start my half marathon plan. The plan is set up for 3-4 runs per week with being ready for the half by the end of December. It’s a combination of 65 workouts with a total of 178 total miles. I hope to start blogging more about my runs and if you have any advice, I totally welcome the comments.
Week one has 3 rest days, 1 benchmark day, 2 recovery days and a long run day. I’m so excited. Please come along this journey with me. If you have the NRC app, let me know your information. We can be virtual running buddies. 🙂
July Running Update: This past month, I ran a sad total of 35 miles. This month was horrible! I was happy that I was able to run in this heat, just didn’t go often enough. During the month of July, I also went to visit my mom in Texas. I packed my workout clothes and had the best of intentions, but sadly, I didn’t exercise or run at all during the visit. We had a great time catching up and I’ll cherish all the moments we spent together forever.
According to Runkeeper, I had a total of 35.6 miles completed. My average pace was 11:03.
I completed 10 activities. I burned 3,796 calories. I elevation climbed 859.3 feet.
I spent 6.33 hours doing some sort of activity.

I feel I was still on the track with my running and eating so, despite the fact that I didn’t come out with the number of miles I wanted, I’m ready to start back up in August and kick butt without any hesitation! June Running/Hiking Update: This past month, I ran, hiked and cycled a total of 60.6 miles. Normally I’ve been averaging close to 70 miles strictly running, but with the extreme weather, I’ve tried to go to the gym more often and switching up my exercises. This past month, we also traveled to The Grand Canyon and I hiked in my city and surrounding locations such as Sedona and Tumamoc Hill in Tucson (picture to the left), which I hope to do an entry about soon.
According to Runkeeper, I had a total of 60.6 miles completed. My average pace was 13:41.
I completed 22 activities. I burned 6,457.7 calories. I elevation climbed 1,599.5 feet.
I spent 16:2 hours doing some sort of activity.
Although the total number isn’t what I would have liked to achieve, I’m happy that despite the heatwave we’ve been experiencing, I was able to continue my exercises and local runs outside.
My goals for July are to continue going to the gym, adding more running miles, and trying new equipment at the gym while maintaining my 80/20 food goals.

Microblog Mondays #9
Today’s MM is about exercising and eating healthy. As round 2 of The Tone It Up Bikini Series begins, my goal is to complete the challenge eating 90/10, instead of the 80/20 I do now. At 46, I don’t feel that eating 3 cookies at one sitting, or a huge bowl of ice cream are going to work. I want to feel healthy, look healthy and be healthy. Saying that out loud is easy, doing the work is hard. Even though it’s been crazy hot, I’ve been trying to continue with my running. Since my daughter and I joined Planet Fitness, we have been trying to go at least 3 days a week. It’s awesome! I’m definitely seeing minor changes and I can’t wait to witness the day to day progress. Eating healthy is not easy for me. Living in a house with 7 people, I’m realizing our schedules and eating habits are never the same. I have been trying to incorporate more chicken and fish along with vegetables and fruit into our eating plan, but overall I am just not making the time to plan. As of August, I’ll be working full time. Meal planning and meal prepping are definitely going to help, just with motivation and preparation, I hope my 90/10 will continue long after the Round 2 program is over.
Today, June 1, 2016, has been declared Global Runners Day. According to their website, Global Running Day is a day for people around the world to celebrate the joys of running. Participation is easy—just pledge to take part in some type of running activity on June 1, 2016. It can be a solo lap around the block, a long run with friends, or even a game of tag with your kids. The key is to share your passion for the sport and inspire others to get moving.
This morning, I scrolled through Facebook, Snapchat and then Instagram before I finally decided to get out of bed. Isn’t that half the battle?? Just getting up, getting dressed and out the door. There are moments when I truly love running and then there are moments when I don’t. June, in Arizona, is hot! If you don’t get up at the crack of dawn, like 5:30am, you will sweat and then with the sun bearing down on you at 7am is very warm. Well, being the procrastinator that I am, that’s when I headed out the door. I ran a quick, well not so quick, 3 plus miles. Felt good to be out there knowing that people all over the world were running and celebrating this fantastic day.

Microblog Mondays #4
Today is a great day! Do you know why?? Well, today is Day 1 of the Tone It Up Bikini Series. I’m bursting with energy and excitement because today is the day millions of women are working on their fitness and feeling great! The Bikini Series is an 8 week challenge that incorporates working out, eating healthy and changing your day to day life for the better. I completed this challenge last year and lost 12 pounds, but I gained much more. I gained new friendships, more confidence in myself and more excitement about my future. Here we go with round 2. If you’ve never heard of Tone It Up I definitely recommend you check out the website (link on the sidebar of this blog) and following their Instagram for motivation and updates. It’s going to be a wild ride.
