This past week we celebrated 3 birthdays in our family. My oldest, Caroline wanted to see a movie for her birthday, which leads me to a review of Money Monster. According to IMDB, the real-time, high stakes thriller stars George Clooney as financial TV host Lee Gates and his producer Patty, portrayed by Julia Roberts. They are put in an extreme situation when an irate investor who has lost everything (Jack O’Connell) forcefully takes over their studio. During a tense standoff broadcast to millions on live TV, Lee and Patty must work furiously against the clock to unravel the mystery behind a conspiracy at the heart of today’s fast-paced, high-tech global markets.
I had seen the trailer for this movie and thought it looked really suspenseful and exciting and it was a little bit. It was a short 90 minutes long which helped move the story along. There were some comedic moments from Clooney’s character hosting the live tv show and I really enjoyed the chemistry between Clooney and Roberts. I also loved Jack O’Connell’s portrayal of Kyle Budwell, the investor who lost everything. Unfortunately, the stock market has never really interested me, therefore, the movie was just good. I would definitely recommend it as a rental or a freebie from Redbox, but not one I’d watch again or purchase.
